Human potential has always intrigued me. For 25 years I worked as a psychotherapist--including 17 years in private practice as a small business owner and 6 years in agency management.
Through that journey, I realized that reaching one's potential--not just healing old wounds---requires a different road map than traditional therapy.
Coaching provides that map. My excitement for coaching grew as I could see clients actively expressing their gifts and potential while living more authentically.
Realizing that coaching is a very different process from therapy, I enrolled in a certification program at Comprehensive Coach University to insure that I could provide my coaching clients with the best service possible.
On January 1, 2000 (what better time than the new millenium), I walked away from a successful career as a therapist, stopped taking counseling and therapy referrals, and began my coaching practice.
Throughout both careers, my love for training, writing, and consulting, has remained constant.
My coaching and consulting practice is a blend of focusing on measureable actions steps toward client goals while honoring the mystery of life. I see my coach role as creating a safe, yet catalytic relationship in which the client feels supported and challenged.
I work with clients who are eager to explore, stretch, act, step through their blocks, and express their deepest potential and authenticity.
My typical individual or group coaching client is bright, high functioning, yet yearning for something more. The "something more" might include living more congruently to his/her values or transforming underachievement into an open expression of gifts and calling. Many of my clients are managers, entrepreneurs, and/or artists. Approximately 60% of my clients are very bright, successful individuals with ADD/ADHD and/or LD challenges.
Although coaching is always individualized to meet the goals of each client, these are themes that many of my clients express:
- finding and following a calling
- negotiating the world of a manager or entrepreneur
- transcending creative or performance blocks (personally and professionally)
- expressing giftedness
- "coming out of the chaos" of Adult ADD/ADHD
- implementing value congruent marketing plans
All of my work is rooted in a deep respect for the beauty and mystery as a life unfolds.
In addition to my Coach training, I have a B.A. degree in English and Psychology from Indiana University, a M.A. degree in Counseling Psychology from Ball State University, and post-Masters studies at William and Mary. Having a life long commitment to learning, I have also taken numerous courses in systems theory and practice, business and strategic management, marketing, and non-profit management.
As a trainer/teacher I have taught University courses and developed numerous training programs including a twelve week Management Skill course and a Stress Management course which was televised through out the state.
I have provided over 300 workshops for groups from small non-profit organizations to State Departments of Education and Corrections. I have served as an invited Key note speaker. Workshops vary in length from one hour to day long conferences to a nine-month training package. My presentation style is grounded, stimulating, and respectful . I firmly believe that any training package is only as effective as its ability to be used in the "real world" beyond the workshop. Coaching services are available to enhance any training program.
